Plot Mhako, the artistic director of Harare-based Jibikila Dance Trust, joins the Youth Forum to discuss his current tenure as a 2015 Mandela Washington Fellow. Mhako is among 499 young African leaders in the U.S. on the prestigious fellowship, and is currently stationed at Tulane University in New Orleans. His organization, Jibikila Dance Trust, founded in 2007 ,promotes popular youth culture for engagement and development offering wide ranging programing around arts training, mentorship and life skills in the face of HIV, unemployment and drug abuse.
Mhako said his time in New Orleans has been amazing, like his selection to the program. “Firstly being selected for YALI is a big honor. I mean having been selected amongst hundreds of applicants that applied for YALI and making it ... I think it’s actually humbling and an inspiring opportunity,” said Mhako.
Mhako will join the other fellows in Washington D.C., after his time at Tulane University.
