The head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Simão, said Thursday from New York that the situation in West Africa and the Sahel remains a major concern, as the U.N. mission there shifts with the departure of peace-keeping troops last month.
